Ephesians 4:11 NASB
And He gave some as apostles,
and some as prophets,
and some as evangelists,
and some as shepherds (pastors)
and teachers,
Here are the five offices in the Church, namely.
Apostles
These are the founders of the Gospel;
Prophets
These are the ones who found the Church by words taught directly by the Holy Spirit;
Evangelists
These are they who go out to win souls, preaching and witnessing; they are often called to travel;
Shepherds
These are they who remain in place and feed and lead the flock.
They must also become proficient in the teaching of God’s Word, do congregational work, anoint the sick, help those seeking the way, and comfort the sorrowful;
Teachers
These are the ones who study and teach more about doctrines.
It happens, however, that one person has to hold several functions, and has the ability to do so from God. Everyone has their own calling and gifts from God.
For example, there are shepherds and evangelists who are at the same time also teachers.
The gardener plants all kinds of flowers in his garden, from the large sunflowers to the small forget-me-not. Each plant in its own place.
It is the same in the church. Each individual has his own task and gifts to glorify God.
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12:31 NASB
But earnestly desire the greater gifts.
And I show you a still more excellent way.
