Yes indeed… congratulations are in order when you have decided to receive the gift from God for you, and follow Jesus.
That decision was the most important decision of your entire life.
Its significance will become clearer as you continue to follow Jesus.
Very often when people make this commitment they have many questions. This is only natural. When a little baby is born into the world it does not understand what life is all about, but as it grows, it will learn, and gradually understand more and more.
If you have sincerely asked God to forgive your sins, and follow Jesus as the Lord of your life, then you are in a very real sense, a spiritual baby. That’s what Jesus meant when He said that “Unless someone is born again he can not see the Kingdom of Heaven.”
You were once born physically, but you were born in sin. Sin was in you ever since, and so you need forgiveness for all that you did wrong. You also need to be “born again” spiritually in order to have a relationship with God.
You might ask, well how do I know if I am really “born again”?
Remember I said that you were a spiritual baby?
Well, one of the first things a physical baby wants is food. In a similar way if you are now a “born again” Christian, you will be hungry for spiritual food.
Jesus said: You can know a real Christian by his fruit. That means, the fruit of his life.
Spiritual food
The Bible is spiritual food.
It says, that as new born babies, you should want the “milk” of the word so that you will be able to grow healthy and strong.
If you don’t already have one, then get a Bible of your own, and start read it.
It is the most amazing book ever written.
I Advice you to start reading in the New Testament with the Gospel of John. John was the closest disciple to Jesus and wrote a first hand account of what Jesus said and did.
Spiritual conversation
You began your relationship with God by praying and talking to Him. So, as He talks to you through the Bible, continue to spend some time each day communicating with Him in prayer.
Spiritual family
You will be happy to know that you have been born into a family.
There are millions of other “born again” Christians throughout the world, and there are probably churches with genuine Christians right in your community.
Though not every one who goes to church is a Christian, very possibly the person who gave, or forwarded this information to you, is one.
As you attend church meetings with other “born again” Christians you will begin to grow spiritually.
Invite others
Don’t limit your new relationship with God to just yourself. There are people all around you who desperately need Jesus too. As you pray to God, ask Him to help you share with others what Jesus has done for you, and for them.
Keep following your Lord, and may He become lord of every part of your life!
