Matthew 13:46
Who, when he had found
one pearl of great price,
went and sold all that he had,
and bought it.
Devotional
The Pearl of great value. You have to see that in Jesus.
Otherwise you say: Jesus?! Serve Jesus?! Trust Jesus?! Is that the pearl?!
Come on! That makes your life bleak.
Commandment upon commandment. Line upon line. Worthless.
Whoever runs into the pearl is given the choice.
It is not a casual find.
When the disciples found Jesus as the Pearl of Great Price, they left everything.
That was too much to ask for the rich young man. That price was too high.
Zacchaeus did it.
When He got to know Jesus, He said: I will give half my wealth to the poor, and if I have made anyone pay too much tax, I will give him back four times as much.
Paul has done it.
He has given up his religious pearls for Jesus’ sake.
Do you notice? Finding Jesus has consequences.
There is a price tag attached to it.
Like Zacchaeus, renounce sinful habits.
Relinquish, like Paul, your own righteousness.
Remember: without loss, without self-denial we never enter the kingdom of heaven.
The Pearl of great value. Jesus!
Imitation or real, what do you live for?
