Psalms 53:1-6 (NASB)
¹The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God,” They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice; There is no one who does good.
²God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God.
³Every one of them has turned aside (gone back); together they have become corrupt (filthy) ; There is no one who does good, not even one.
⁴Have the workers of wickedness no knowledge, Who eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God?
⁵There they were in great fear, where no fear had been; For God scattered the bones of him who encamped against you; You put them to shame, because God had rejected (despised) them.
⁶Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores (brings back) His captive people, Let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
This Psalm shows a lot of similarities with Psalms 14.
David shows us in it how stupid, corrupt, bad and evil we really are if we don’t trust on God.
He clearly wants to convince us of our sins. (Vs. 1)
• He also warns the persecutors of those who belong to God, the worst of sinners, for the terror that is awaiting them. (Vs. 5)
• And on the other hand he speaks words of encouragement to God’s persecuted people. (Vs. 6)
You wonder how come that people are so bad these days?
Well, it is because people don’t have the fear of God in their lives.
The actions of any man, whether they are good or bad, are based on what lives in their hearts.
If you profess in words that you know God, but your actions don’t show it, there is probably someone else who is the ruler of your life.
James 2:14,17
¹⁴What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
¹⁷Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
▪︎ bad practices, are produced by bad principles,
▪︎ and bad principles, are not put in your heart by God!
You may profess to know God, but in your heart and in your thoughts, you deny Him.
Do you see the folly of sin?
▪︎ The fool, this is the sinner, says in his heart, “There is no God,” so I can do whatever I like.
▪︎ A similar fool is he who believes that because he was one day saved, he can now live like satan on earth.
They are fools, in the eyes of God, and these fools too, will receive God’s righteous judgment
From the Bible, and from true Christians, we know what the fruits are, from a life in close relationships with the Father.
Galatians 5:22-23
²²The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³gentleness, self-control.
And when we look into the world we see what the fruits of sin are; and we see to what despicable things sin brings men, when their hearts are hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
See contrasting to this all, the faith of the saints, and their hope on the cure of this great evil.
▪︎ The Savior has come, and will come
▪︎ A great salvation has come, and will come
God will complete His salvation from sin in us, so sin will not have any power whatsoever over us anymore, which will be of everlasting joy to us.
God will save his church from all of its enemies.
Matthew 1:21
She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
