Matthew 8:19-20 – ¹⁹Then a scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” ²⁰Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
It was as if Jesus said to the scribe: Do you know what you are saying?
Following me means, that you have to take up your cross, and indeed follow. I am not offering you any kind of luxury, and even the things you think now, that they are a minimal life standard; You may be missing those as well.
Jesus always spoke about the Kingdom. And not about how people could get more possessions, or live a life in luxury
Jesus words were always eternal blessings, and not temporary ‘feel good messages’.
We must be watchful.
Satan will always try to copy God.
He is like God’s monkey.
The temporary “blessing” may not come from God at all.
A man one day was talked by a “friend” into trying the lottery once.
The very first try gave him a big financial boost. So the coming weeks and months he kept trying to win even more. Sometimes he would win a little, but most of the time he lost his money to the lottery. At the end he had debts, and he was addicted to playing in the lottery. He became a slave of it, and needed to be set free.
Jesus was always looking for the eternal good for mankind, rather than temporary materials, or good feelings. And He was not trying to get people to follow him by doing nice promises, or telling them that they would get what they already wanted. That by the way is the tactic satan uses to lure people into follow him.
Tell people what they like to hear and they will listen, but tell people that they are heading for eternal disaster, if they don’t repent, and they will leave you.
Still Jesus’s message was, and remained: “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand”. And those who follow Him, will also tell you to repent of your sins, pray for forgiveness, and follow Him.
May God help me in Jesus name
