Romans 12:16
Be of the same mind toward one another;
do not be haughty in mind,
but associate with the lowly.
Do not be wise in your own estimation.
In other words:
Be in harmony with one another. Do not have a high opinion of yourselves (Do not be proud), but be in agreement with common people (be willing to associate with people of low position). Do not give yourselves an air of wisdom. (Do not be conceited).
Devotional
“Don’t be conceited!”
That’s a command for someone else, right?
I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who felt he or she was conceited.
But, when we’re looking for someone with whom we want to associate, we seldom look for someone …
▪︎ who is ignored by the crowd,
▪︎ who isforgotten by the pretty people,
▪︎ who is easily overlooked by others.
We want to “hang around with” …
▪︎ those who are important,
▪︎ those who are superstars,
▪︎ those are at least who carry some clout.
We believe we deserve to be noticed and valued, too.
Oops, guess that’s where the commands in this verse come from!
Prayer suggestions
▪︎ Thank the Father for making you in His image,
▪︎ Thank the Father that you are designed by Him to do things to His glory.
▪︎ Ask the Father to help you to not thinking too much of yourself and your importance.
▪︎ Ask the Father to help you to see those with whom He wants you to associate.
