2 Corinthians 6:16
What agreement has the temple of God with idols?
For we are the temple of the living God;
just as God said,
“I will dwell in them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Devotional
▪︎ What a great thing to know that God calls His own: “My people!”
▪︎ And what a great thing that He is willing to be: “our God!”
Did you ever think over this, how much meaning is enclosed in these words?
▪︎ The whole world belongs to God;
▪︎ the heaven, even the heaven of heavens belongs to Him;
▪︎ He has everything, the whole earth, yes the whole universe, in control,
But of those whom he has chosen, whom he hath purchased to himself, he says what he says of no other: “My people.”
In this word there is the idea of ownership.
And in fact He is, as He bought us with the blood that was shed on Golgotha.
In a special way the Lord’s portion is His people;
▪︎ Jacob is the lot of His inheritance.
▪︎ All the nations upon earth are His;
▪︎ the whole world is in His power;
Yet, His people, His chosen, are more especially His possession, for He has done more for them than for others.
▪︎ He has bought them with His blood;
▪︎ He has brought them nigh to Himself;
▪︎ He has set his heart upon them;
▪︎ He has loved them with an everlasting love,
• a love which cannot be quenched,
• and which the revolutions of time cannot diminish.
Dear friends,
▪︎ Can you, by faith, see yourselves in that number?
▪︎ Can you look up to heaven and say, “My Lord and my God”.
Do you have that sweet relationship with the Father, which entitles you to call Him ‘Father’; And not just a Father, but yours?
▪︎ Can you read the Bible, and find in there the agreement about your salvation?
▪︎ Can you read in it, and understand the value of your salvation by the precious blood of the Christ?
▪︎ Can you, by humble faith, touch Jesus’ garments, and say, “My Christ”?
If you can, then God says of you, and of others like you, “My people”.
For, if God is your God, and the Christ is your Christ, the Lord has a special, peculiar favor to you; you are the object of his choice, accepted in his beloved Son.
