The Book of books

Psalms 119:129-130
¹²⁹Your testimonies are wonderful;
Therefore my soul observes them.
¹³⁰The unfolding of Your words gives light;
It [gives] understanding to the simple.

An important part of the destiny of America lies in the daily reading of that great Book–the Bible!
— Wilson

President Woodrow Wilson declared with emphasis:
“I’m sorry for the men who do not read the Bible every day; I wonder why they deprive themselves of the strength and pleasure it affords. It is one of the most singular books in the world; for whenever you open it some old text that you have read a score of times suddenly beams with new meaning. There is no other book
which yields its treasures so personally or fits itself so intimately to the one who is seeking guidance.”

▪︎ A noted orator asked Charles Dickens for the most pathetic story in literature, and he said it was that of the prodigal son.
▪︎ Samuel Coleridge was asked for the richest passage ever written, and he asserted it was Matthew 5:1-15.
▪︎ Another inquired of Daniel Webster where he could find the greatest legal digest, and he replied that nothing could equal the Sermon on the Mount.
▪︎ Samuel Chadwick testified, “I have guided my life by the Bible for more than 60 years, and I tell you there is no book like it. It is a miracle of literature, a perennial
spring of wisdom, a wonder of surprises, a revelation of mystery, an infallible guide of conduct, and an unspeakable source of comfort.
Pay no attention to people who discredit it, for I tell you that they speak without knowledge.
It is the Word of God itself.
▪︎ Study it according to its own direction.
▪︎ Live by its principles,
▪︎ believe its message,
▪︎ and follow its precepts.
No man is uneducated who knows the Bible, and no one is wise who is ignorant of its teachings!”

▪︎ God’s Word is indeed the greatest of all books, and its Author the best of all teachers!

O may these heavenly pages be
My ever dear delight;
And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light.
